We will update this page frequently, and would love to hear your ideas on links that you would like to see us add to this page to share with other pet owners. Feel free to send us your favorites. General Veterinary Medical Information

Veterinary Partner  This is the best website for pet owners for veterinary medical information for their pets for two reasons.  The first is that it is unbiased; the authors of the website are not trying to sell anything or sway anyone to use an service or product.  The second is that all of the information on the website was either written or reviewed by specialists so the information is without peer.

Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) This website has some good general information about dental care, but more importantly it has a list of all the products that have received the VOHC Seal of Acceptance.  This Seal is an indicator that a product with a dental claim has been proven by research to be effective at significantly helping to reduce plaque, tartar, or both on your pet's teeth, and also that the product is safe.  Our philosophy here at Friendship Springs Veterinary Care is to recommend only those products that have this Seal.  We almost never recommend any product that does not have this seal.  If you are interested in a particular dental product that is not on this list, please ask about it first.  There are a very items we will recommend that are not on this list.

USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service The USDA maintains this website with information on a variety of animal health related topics, including the latest news on such things as Mad Cow Diseases, foot and mouth disease, and many other topics.  Also, if you are traveling to another country with your pet, you can check here for important travel information.

VIN News Service (VNS)  This is the news arm of the Veterinary Information Network, a non-profit and unbiased resource for veterinarians and pet owners.  This site provides information about a variety of topics of concern to all things pets. 

FDA Resources For You  This is a pet owners resource site provided by the FDA.

VetzInsight  An offbeat, inside look at animal issues.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC)  This is a link to the CDC homepage where you can search for primarily human topics, but veterinary pet topics are often to be found if they are deemed to have potential impact on human health.

Heartworm Society    Everything you ever wanted to know about heartworm disease can be found here.

CDC Hookworm, Roundworm, & Tapeworms Recommendations Important information from the CDC about Roundworms and Hookworms in pets.  These are zoonotic parasites which means they are capable of spreading to humans.

AAHA Canine Vaccine Guidelines  These are the guidelines upon which our vaccine recommendations for dogs are based.

AAFP Feline Vaccine Guidelines  These are the guidelines upon which our vaccine recommendations for cats are based.  Closely related to feline vaccines are the feline retroviruses, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus.

Poison Information

ASPCA Poison Control This is the website of the National Animal Poison Control Center. It includes a library, links to other sites, and phone numbers for the poison control center. This is the only website we recommend for pet poison information because it is the only one that is animal specific.

Pet Poison Helpline  This is another website similar to the ASPCA Poison Information Center.
